Our Projects

Cultivating cultural roots and empowering community growth

Tātai Tāngata ki te Whenua

Tātai Tāngata ki te Whenua course  is a bold initiative that I’m privileged to partner with  Te Kahui o Taranaki iwi  on. We have just completed our 2nd year transforming backyards and the lives of over 140 members of Taranaki iwi. Whether you live in Taranaki or across Aotearoa or the world all members of the iwi are welcomed.

The Tātai Tāngata programme  provides  practical solution for addressing kai insecurity and addresses the high costs of fresh fruit and vegetables. In just five months, whanau  will learn how to cultivate natural Kai  in their own backyards through Maara Kai.  Participants will also experience intergenerational healing from disconnection with their cultural landscapes, and gain physical and healing benefits from being immersed in Te Ao Turoa.

By participating, you’ll be empowered and equipped to become self-sufficient. Our Tātai program also offers intergenerational healing both physical and emotional benefits, as well as increased awareness of ngā tohu.

Participants have the opportunity to strengthen family connections

while their tamariki gain valuable experience in the maara.  Expression of interest for the Tātai Tāngata ki te Whenua open in koanga each year.

Toitu Whanau Maara Kai mentoring Programme

Toitu te Whenua

Toitu te Tangata

Toitu Whanau, an innovative project that encourages the cultivation of Kai (food) among Whanau, in the town of Waitara. With an increase in fruit and vegetable prices, the need for food resiliency in the small town is rapidly rising, especially since it has a high Maori population.

Toitu Whanau provides a Kai growing mentoring program where families receive a Maara Kai kit and educational support, leading to significant improvement in their wellbeing.

Created following the successful engagement around Kai Resilience, this 5-month project is delivered in partnership with Foodbank – Kai Pataka o Waitara, and has exceeded expectations. Join us today in bringing food security to your home.

Te Waka Kai Ora and Hua Parakore Verification System

Te Waka Kai Ora serves as the kaitiaki of the Hua Parakore verification system, founded on the wisdom of our tupuna. This system nurtures Kai Atua by upholding ngā kaupapa. Hua Parakore represents a revolutionary Māori movement that champions pure foods.

The system promotes food sovereignty and security, allowing Māori to cultivate pesticide-free crops and support local agriculture. Across Aotearoa, Hua Parakore-verified Māori-owned farms, marae, and food outlets thrive.

Embark on your Maara Kai journey toward sustainable food practices today with Hua Parakore – a system that upholds six guiding principles.
